Ferrari: No Alonso get-out clause

Ferrari: No Alonso get-out clause

Marco Mattiacci has denied that Fernando Alonso has a performance-based get-out clause that would allow him to leave Ferrari at the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports in an exclusive interview ahead of this week's home Grand Prix at Monza, the Ferrari Team Principal rubbished suggestions that Alonso could leave Scuderia if their results don't drastically improve.

"No, I'm not comment... it is not true. I don't like to comment on our contracts with drivers," he told Sky Sports.

"They are assets."

"The car is improving, it definitely has improved in the last two, three races.

"We are not closing the gap, compared to Mercedes," he admitted, "but it has given us the possibility to be a little bit more competitive."

Although Mercedes look set to dominate at the high-speed Monza circuit, Mattiacci is hopeful that Ferrari will give the tifosi something to cheer about during the weekend.

"It is clear that Mercedes keep showing a consistent performance, particularly in the overall package," he admitted to Autosport.

"We want to end the pain and frustration that our fans have been goi9ng through for the last few years.

We have been facing heavy races [before] with a concern about our lack of competitiveness, but at the same time, there is always an opportunity.

"Formula 1 racing is about drivers, human beings, and strategy, so let's try to be extremely disciplined and focused.

"We must keep doing what we've been doing: which is keep very calm, make the right decisions knowing that we are away from the top, and take any opportunities.

"That's the approach we have for Monza. It's going to be extremely difficult, that we are aware. Let's see what we can do on the other side."

The last time Ferrari won at Monza was in 2010 through Ferrnando Alonso.
