Turning The Team Round 360 Degrees

Turning The Team Round 360 Degrees

Jason Kidd is an American basketball star. He's currently the coach of NBA team the Milwaukee Bucks, but back in his playing days, when he was drafted from college to the struggling Dallas Mavericks he came up with this legendary quote in the pantheon of none-too-bright sports quotes: "We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees... "

...and still keep heading in the same direction. 180 degrees might have been a better choice.

Now, fast forward a couple of decades and boss of the struggling Ferrari team, Marco Mattiacci, had this to say about the Scuderia's lack of performance in 2014: "We need to improve at 360 degrees. It's not just the power units, the aerodynamics, the chassis; it's the team, the car - it's a huge amount of work that needs to be done."

To celebrate the re-emergence of a classic sports quote, here are some more that are also included in the sports chapter of Laura Ward's book, 'Foolish Words'.

"With eight minutes left, the game could be won in the next five or ten minutes."
Jimmy Armfield, radio commentator.

"I would not say he (David Ginola) is the best left winger in the Premiership, but there are none better."
Ron Atkinson, TV pundit

"If you don't know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else."
Yogi Berra, baseball legend

"If you can't stand the heat in the dressing room, get out of the kitchen."
Terry Venables, former England manager

"Baseball is 90 per cent mental-the other half is physical."
Yogi Berra, New York Yankees (and the Mets) baseball legend

"There's only a second between them. One. That's how long a second is."
Murray Walker

"A mediocre season for Nelson Piquet, as he is now known, and always has been.
Murray Walker

"Tambay's hopes, which were previously nil, are now absolutely zero."
Murray Walker

"I knew I was going to take the wrong train, so I left early."
Yogi Berra

"This is an interesting circuit because it has inclines. And not just up, but down as well."
Murray Walker

"There's nothing wrong with the car; except that it's on fire."

Murray Walker

"Azinger is wearing an all-black outfit: black jumper, blue trousers, white shoes and a pink 'tea-cosy' hat."
Golf commentator Renton Laidlaw,

"You couldn't really find two more completely different personalities than these two men, Tom Watson and Brian Barnes; one is the complete golf professional and the other, the complete professional golfer."
Peter Alliss
