Rosberg: New car a pleasure to drive

What a difference a few weeks make in Formula One, just ask Nico Rosberg and his Mercedes team.

After completing just 14 laps on the opening day of the first winter test in Jerez with his team-mate Lewis Hamilton going only one lap better the next day, Rosberg had a more enjoyable day in Barcelona on Tuesday.

Although the first day at the Circuit de Catalunya wasn't completely error-free as he had a gearbox issue early in the day, the German topped the timesheets with a 1:22.616.

His time was just 0.007s better than that of second-placed man Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus, but for Rosberg it was all about being comfortable in the W04.

"It's always nice to be quickest at the end of the day," he said.

"In general, I feel happy and comfortable in the car, and it feels better than the last time we were here at this track.

"The car feels decent out there. It has a much, much better base. You can feel its centre of gravity is lower, the aero is better, the platform is better.

"It feels a lot stronger. It's a pleasure to drive because it's a lot faster than last year."

Despite the positive start in Barcelona, Rosberg admits they need to up their game when it comes to reliability.

He added: "That's a bit of a pity. We have to work on that.

"We have a few too many reliability issues at the moment. Other than that, it's definitely going in the right direction."
