Lewis Hamilton reckons he can challenge for pole position in Korea after laying down a good foundation on Friday.

The Mercedes driver set the pace in free practice at the Korean International Circuit, beating Sebastian Vettel in both sessions.

While he was 0.037s up on the Red Bull racer in the morning, he extended his advantage to 0.108s on the supersoft tyres in the afternoon.

"It's been a good day. Really happy with the way everything's gone," he told told Sky Sports F1.

"We've still got some improvements to make set-up wise, but we look like we're competitive like we were in the last race."

Asked if pole position was on the cards, Hamilton said: "That's what I'm here to do and I definitely feel like I have a bit of a better foundation this weekend.

"I can't remember the last time I had a really strong Friday, so let's hope that continues through the weekend.

"It [the car]'s feeling good. I've still some tweaks to make to it, but it should be good for tomorrow."
