Schumi 'critical' after skiing accident

Michael Schumacher is in a critical condition and in a coma after suffering a head injury in a skiing accident.

Schumacher suffered the injury while skiing in an unmarked area at Meribel in France with his 14-year-old son on Sunday.

At 11:07am local time, the seven-time World Champ fell, hitting his head on a rock.

Within minutes he had received medical treatment and was airlifted to Moutiers before he was flown to Grenoble for more tests.

Leading neurologist Gerard Saillant was brought to the hospital where Schumacher reportedly underwent "immediate neurosurgical treatment."

According to German news agency SID, the 44-year-old's management has revealed that he is in a "critical condition" with his wife and children by his side.

Schumacher retired for F1 for the second time at the end of 2012 having spent his last three years with Mercedes. He remains the sport's most successful driver with 91 race wins and seven World titles.
