Wolff downplays Newey departure

Wolff downplays Newey departure

Toto Wolff believes that although Adrian Newey won't be at Red Bull on a daily basis, he will still influence the team's performance next season.

Earlier this month Newey signed a new multi-year contract with Red Bull Racing but at the same time confirmed that he would be focusing his attention outside of Formula 1.

However, still keeping his hand in the sport in a advisory and mentoring role, Wolff has downplayed the impact the tech guru's departure will have on the reigning World Champions.

"He is still going to be there, although he is advising and mentoring them," the Mercedes executive told Autosport.

"I don't think that this is a goodbye for Adrian. I think he wants to be associated with the team, but switch focus on to other projects.

"He is a very competitive person and I have no doubt that he will try to help them as much as possible to get the car back on a winning streak."
