Ferrari's head of communications has downplayed Pat Fry's "not happy" comment, saying it's too early in the game to look at the stopwatches.
Speaking after the third full day of pre-season testing, at which time Ferrari had yet to duck below the 1:20.000 barrier which their main rivals had all managed to do, Ferrari's technical director admitted he had a few concerns.
"I'm not happy with where we are at the moment," Fry said. "There is a lot of room for us to improve.
"Reliability-wise it is good. Performance-wise I think we are okay.
"But we can play around with the performance and improve the car in some corners, and some particular parts of the corner.
"But I would not say I am happy yet until we get the whole thing working."
And while Fry's words raised concerns with many a Ferrari fan, head of communications Luca Colajanni insists there is nothing to worry about as proven by Fernando Alonso's best lap time after the first two hours of Friday morning - a 1:18.877.
"We said yesterday we don't look at the stopwatch now because it's a work in progress and we don't look at the stopwatch now because we have done one second less than yesterday," he told Rachel Brookes on Sky Sports News. "Nothing has changed."
Asked whether fans should be "reassured" by Alonso's time, he added: "We believe there is a lot of potential in the car.
"There is a lot of work to do. The concept is new, the car is brand new... so it needs a lot of fine-tuning. This session of four days is aimed at that work.
"From the next one in Barcelona, we will try to look at performance, but we will only have the verdict in Melbourne in mid-March."
Pressed as to whether there was 'no cause for concern' in light of the 1:18.877, Colajanni said: "I am old enough to know that it means nothing to be the fastest person in the test. It doesn't give any points, any pole positions.
"If you remember from last year at Jerez, Rubens Barrichello was fastest... and Williams gained four points in nineteen races."
