Alonso: The title remains the main goal

Fernando Alonso may have lost the battle in Britain but he won the war as he's still holding onto the lead in the title chase.

Heading into Silverstone, Alonso was the only repeat for this season and looked set to add a third triumph to his tally before Red Bull's Mark Webber loomed large.

Having opted to run the soft Pirelli tyres in his final stint, Alonso had no answer to Webber as the Red Bull racer, on the more durable compound, used his DRS to sweep past him and take the win.

"It was very close today but at the end Mark was much quicker than us and deserved the victory," Alonso said.

"Now we are fighting for victories in the last three or four grands prix.

"I hope the fans enjoyed the show today."

But while he wasn't able to win the race on Sunday, Alonso still maintained his lead lead in the Drivers' Championship, although the gap is now down to 13 points between himself and Webber.

"I'm still leading the Championship and that's the main target for us," said the Spaniard.

"we lost seven points with Mark winning but we gained some more points on the rest of the field."

Meanwhile, team boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed that Ferrari struggled on the soft tyres on Sunday and still have a lot of work to do towards the Championship.

"Today we did not have the best with the soft. We have to congratulate Red Bull," he said.

"It is a tough Championship so let us move on to Germany, we know what we have to do.

"We are at the crucial part of the season and we need to keep the pace and keep working because the others are very strong."
