Ferrari 'evaluating' Massa penalty

Ferrari could change Felipe Massa's gearbox ahead of the US GP in order to incur a penalty and put Fernando Alonso on the clean side of the grid.

Alonso is starting Sunday's grand prix from eighth place as although he qualified P9, he was moved up one place when Romain Grosjean was hit with a gearbox change penalty.

However, that means the Spaniard is on the dirty side of the grid which everyone is predicting will be a major hindrance when the race gets underway.

As such, Ferrari are reportedly considering changing Massa's gearbox so that he drops from sixth to 11th thus pushing Alonso up to seventh and the clean side of

"We are evaluating the situation right now," a Ferrari spokesman told Autosport.
