Alonso: Much work to be done

Not content with cutting Sebastian Vettel's Championship lead, Fernando Alonso knows Ferrari need to keep improving.

The Spaniard's third place finish at the British Grand Prix saw him move to 111 points on the Drivers' standings, 21 shy of Vettel who was forced to retire from the race due to a gearbox failure.

Having finished in a disappointing tenth spot in qualifying on Saturday, a podium finish serves as a great accomplishment for the former World Champion, but he certainly isn't getting carried away with the result.

"It was a good race for us. We got lucky to recover some points and it was a good result for us in the end," he said.

"Looking at the problems with tyres for some of the drivers, the drivers who didn't have any problems have to feel lucky," added the 31-year-old.

"I have mixed feelings. I'm happy for the points because we reduced the gap a little in this race, but we saw this weekend that the pace is not good enough.

"I trust the team. There is a lot of work to do, but we are united."

Alonso was lucky to come out unscathed after being in the wrong place at the wrong time when Sergio Perez suffered a puncture.

"I had two moments. In that one with Sergio, I was so scared and I was lucky because I missed the contact by maybe a centimetre," he explained.
