Ferrari fined for Massa's pit exit

Ferrari were hand a €10,000 fine by the Monza stewards for sending Felipe Massa out onto the track too late in FP1.

The Brazilian driver exited his Ferrari garage with just seconds remaining in Friday's first practice session for the Italian GP.

As Massa approached the white line that marks the end of the pit lane, the light changed to red and the Brazilian slammed brakes.

However, it was not enough to prevent him from crossing the white line - and almost hitting his team-mate Fernando Alonso who was stationary for a practice start.

The driver and the team were summoned to the stewards office where it was deemed that the rules had been broken. Ferrari were fined €10,000 for the offense.

"The driver made every attempt to stop when seeing the red light, however the team made an error in releasing the car with insufficient time remaining in the session. No sporting advantage was gained," said the stewards' statement.
