Di Montezemolo wants key meeting

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is chasing a meeting with the sport's powers-that-be to discuss Formula 1's future.

Di Montezemolo is unhappy with modern day Formula 1; frustrated with the new 1.6-litre V6 engines, fuel restrictions, overtaking and the tyres.

As such, Autosport is reporting that he recently wrote to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and CVC's Donald McKenzie expressing his "worries".

The Ferrari President has called for Ecclestone to gather key figures from not only the teams but also race promoters and media to discuss the future.

"It is natural for Ferrari to exercise a proactive approach and discussions are ongoing at the appropriate levels," Ferrari spokesman Renato Bisignani told Autosport.

"There is a need to act collectively with the sport's key stakeholders and to reflect on the bigger picture, with constructive critics in the interests of the sport, with an eye towards technology and another one towards the show.

"Formula 1 has been built over the years into a unique marketing and sporting platform and it must now consolidate its ability to attract global sponsors, engage with fans and make racing more exciting."

Bisignani also responded to recent reports that di Montezemolo was considering pulling Ferrari out of F1 and instead concentrating on endurance racing, saying that is not true.

"Quite the contrary," he revealed.

"Le Mans is an attractive platform which we continue to monitor but Formula 1 has been Ferrari's life for over half a century and our present focus is on returning to a consistent winning form.

"Behind the scenes there is much going on and the efforts of Montezemolo, coupled by Marco Mattiacci's new leadership, are concentrated solely on this front."
