Vettel: Red Bull still has a chance

With a major upgrade planned for next month's Austrian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel maintains Red Bull can still challenge Mercedes for the 2014 Constructor's Championship title.

Even though Vettel lost further ground in the Championship to Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton after retiring early from the Monaco Grand Prix, the German remains optimistic of Red Bull's chances.

"We are looking at the situation race-by-race. Of course it did not go well recently but we are looking forward to the next races," the four-time champion told the media during an event at the Spielberg circuit on Tuesday.

"Mathematically we are right in there.

"For sure we made progress and this proves we are on the right path. We won't be favourites in the near future, but over a race distance, anything can happen.

"There are always reasons for setbacks, and I do not believe in bad luck. We just have to sort the problems out."

Vettel added that the recent reports linking him with a possible move away from Red Bull is regular source of amusement for him.

"I'm fascinated that journalists react so quickly. It is not long ago that Red Bull had some very successful years. Now we have had six races and we are not so successful and there are already discussions about my future," the 26-year-old added.

"We are still the second force in Formula One, ahead of Ferrari for example, so it could be worse."

Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko confirmed that Renault has a major update for its power units scheduled for the June 22 Austrian GP.

"We have a task force of Toro Rosso, Renault, and us, working together closely and trying to find solutions together, which we surely will do," said Marko.

"We will not stop developing the RB10 further so we can concentrate on 2015 already. We will stay focused on 2014."
