Ricciardo won't get carried away

Daniel Ricciardo is determined to "focus on being the best I can" following his "boost" from the Young Driver Test.

The Australian, along with Toro Rosso team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, is in the running to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull next year.

Red Bull decided to evaluate him at the Silverstone test last month and they are expected to confirm Webber's replacement before the Italian Grand Prix.

Despite the links with the Milton Keynes squad, Ricciardo has vowed to keep his feet firmly on the ground and produce results for his current team.

"I don't really know how to view the situation. I'm trying not to analyse it too much," he said.

"It was a nice boost for me to get the drive at the Young Driver Test (at Silverstone last month), but I still have to focus on being the best I can.

"Since Canada some things have gone better for us, although the race at the Nurburgring wasn't anything to brag about.

"Saturday was great (qualifying sixth), but on Sunday (finishing 12th) we didn't perform the way we wanted to.

"In Hungary, again on Saturday (qualifying eighth) I was happy with the way I drove, but in the race it was clear we weren't really quick (finishing 13th).

"Everyone is getting pretty excited, but we've still some work to do and I've my feet on the ground.

"I'm not getting too excited with everything. We'll see what turns out."

Ricciardo spent half a day in the RB9 at Silverstone and, although he spun off the track early on, he felt he did a very good job considering it was his first time in the car.

"Looking at the test I did the best I could," he added.

"The little off was a good thing if anything. It proved I was trying to find the limit and adapt as quickly as possible.

"They (Red Bull) understand I got down to the times pretty quickly, and then had that moment. It's clear I was trying to get comfortable as soon as possible.

"With regard to the technical feedback, I feel I'm not shaping up too badly with the comments to the engineers.

"I gave them as much as I could. For that half day I was pretty satisfied."
