Kimi looks to cure back woes

Kimi Raikkonen is to get treatment at the end of the season for a back complaint that has troubled him for more than a decade.

The 33-year-old, who moves to Ferrari from Lotus for next year's campaign, said Friday that he wants to cure the recurring problem, which nearly forced him to miss the Singapore Grand Prix last month, once and for all.

"It is not really surgery, but for sure we are probably going to do something," Raikkonen was quoted as saying by Autosport.com.

"I know what the issues are," he added ahead of the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday.

"You cannot really say it is all (down to) that, but unfortunately with many years of driving and doing things it doesn't help.

"I had some issues and small operations on it already and, when I was doing rallying, it is one of those things you have to live with.

"It is not ideal when you have issues on any part of your body. It has been there a long time and I am sure we can find some solution."

He crashed into a wall on Friday in first practice but was back in his car for the afternoon session and said afterwards that his back was fine.

"Obviously it didn't help that I destroyed part of the car this morning; maybe I ran out of talent there!" the Finn joked. "It didn't cause too much damage and the car was fine for the second practice, even if the guys had quite a hurry to fix it.

"They did a good job and we managed to complete everything we wanted today. The car feels quite strong - especially on the long runs - so that's good news for the race. On the short runs it wasn't exactly as I wanted, but we still have some time to make improvements there."
