Kamui raises £500,000 through website

Kamui Kobayashi has already managed to raise £500,000 through a fundraising website which was set up to help him to secure a race seat.

The Japanese driver was left without a drive for the 2013 campaign after Sauber opted to go for a Nico Hulkenberg-Esteban Gutierrez partnership.

Kobayashi, though, is determined to remain in Formula One and he set up a website, www.kamui-support.com, which gives fans a chance to donate funds towards his cause.

"Suzuka had more than 100,000 people at the race... over the three days we had 200,000," he said following the launch of the site.

"I think we have a lot of potential to get some money from the fans as well."

The response has been good so far and the 26-year-old is grateful to those who have contributed.

"Thank you for your support from everyone for 'Kamui Support'. Thank you very much," he wrote in Japanese on Twitter.

"As of November 27, the current fundraising total was 65,813,672 yen."
