Sauber have refused to rule out signing Rubens Barrichello despite the 41-year-old being out of F1 for two years.
The former Ferrari driver left the sport at the end of 2011 having spent his final two season with the Williams F1 team.
After trying his hand at IndyCars for a year, Barrichello switched over to commentary and journalism and has not competed professionally for the whole of 2013.
But despite that, the Brazilian has been linked to a shock return to Formula One with the Sauber team in 2014.
And team boss Monisha Kaltenborn has refused to rule it out.
"There are a couple of options out there," she said.
"We know what he [Barrichello] has - his experience, we know that he'd like to come back. So let's see."
As for claims that Barrichello could even contest this year's season-ending Brazilian GP, Kaltenborn at least said that wouldn't happen.
"I don't see any possibility there because we have no reason to change our two drivers for that race."
