Williams offer deepest condolences

Williams have offered their condolences in the wake of the death of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

Williams have close ties to the country given their sponsorship deal with the state owned oil company PDVSA.

Added to that Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado, who is backed by PDVSA, is about to enter his third season with the Grove-based squad.

"In the wake of the announcement that Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, has passed away after a long battle with cancer, the Williams F1 Team sends its deepest condolences to the family of President Chávez and the people of Venezuela," the team said in a statement.

Chavez died on Tuesday after a two-year battle with cancer.
