Wolff: That's F1 sometimes

Susie Wolff's official Formula One race weekend debut lasted only four laps at Silverstone on Friday.

Free Practice One was an historic one for the Williams test driver as she became the first female in 22 years to compete in an official F1 session.

She posted a 1:44.212s on her first flying lap, but she was back in the garage just four laps into the session after an oil pressure problem with her FW36 forced her to stop on the track.

The 31-year-old, though, was pretty philosophical after her brief outing.

"Really tough day but that's F1 sometimes," she told BBC Sport. "We had an oil-pressure problem, which cut the engine off, the guys are looking at it and hopefully they can get it fixed for free practice two.

"First of all a huge thank you for all the support I've had. Going out on the track was just the best feeling, because although there has been a lot of media around my run, when you put your helmet on that's the best.

"I had a good feeling out there in the car and I was looking forward to it. It turned out to be a very short run, but I have to keep my head up and look forward to Hockenheim.

"I felt very ready for today; the team had done a fantastic job of preparing me.

"It was good to get that first run on an actual race weekend in the bag and I'll keep working towards Hockenheim knowing what I have to do and how the car will feel."
