Pastor Maldonado relished the laps covered in Bahrain on Friday, conceding that the only issue was his own mistake.
After a trying beginning to the season in which one or both E22s have suffered problems in Friday practices, Lotus had a relatively smooth start in Bahrain.
Maldonado and his team-mate Romain Grosjean amassed 55 laps in FP1 before adding another 47 to their tally on Friday night.
In fact, the only big issue Maldonado experienced was his own doing.
Running wide in FP2 under the lights at the Sakhir circuit, he hit a kerb and was launched into the air.
The flight - and the landing - caused some damage to his E22, however, Lotus were able to make quick repairs and send him back out.
"It was good to have a reliable car and we completed a lot of work today. We had a lot of parts to test and we ran through many different evaluations," the Venezuelan explained.
"I made a little mistake in the evening session and we took quite a bit of air after jumping the kerb.
"Fortunately, not too much damage was done and we could continue the session."
Maldonado is now looking forward to Saturday's action when he will attempt to make it into Q2 for the first time this season.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow to see how well we can perform," he added.
