Interlagos eyes deal until 2020

Signs that the Brazilian Grand Prix will remain at Interlagos for the foreseeable future are good with the city's mayor saying they are close to signing a new contract.

Formula One ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone earlier this month gave Interlagos the hurry up in terms of upgrading the circuit saying:"If Sao Paulo does what they say they are going to do, we don't need to move. They know what the deadline is. If they don't do it pretty soon, it will be gone."

However, Sao Paulo's mayor Fernando Haddad insists they are close to signing a new agreement and also revealed they will pump plenty of cash into the track during the upgrading process.

"In May we will finish the contract that Formula 1 will remain here until 2020," he is quoted as saying by Brazil's Lancenet.com. "We just need to go through the paperwork to sign it. It was a long discussion, but did not want to commit to something we could not do."

He added: "It will be a big job. We require a long-term contract, because we will invest more than $100 million and would not do reform without having the security. It is reasonable that the agreement go 2020."
