'F1 isn't always the best option'

With just one Brazilian left in F1, the country's auto racing president concedes the sport is not always the "best" market for drivers.

Although Brazil holds a massive place in F1's history, in recent times the country has failed to match the successes of yesteryear.

Now just one driver, Felipe Massa, remains and the 32-year-old is not exactly in a position to triumph given his recent move from Ferrari to Williams.

And it may be some time before Brazil again has a driver fighting at the front as Confederacao Brasileira de Automobilismo president Cleyton Pinteiro concedes there are other better options for his country's drivers.

"Today Brazil is a reference in almost all categories worldwide," Pinteiro told Globo Esporte.

"We have a strong national motorsport, which pays well and gives its drivers a return to their sponsors. So it's actually interesting to have a Brazilian Formula 1.

"Luiz Razia and Felipe Nasr are not there for a lack of talent or because they can't get sponsors to pay the bill. F1 is not always the best option."

He added that the "universe of motorsport is not restricted to F1" with Brazil having several drivers doing well in other series.

"We have several Brazilians racing in global categories and which unfortunately are not properly recognised," he added.

"Try a search and ask who is is the current vice-champion of the DTM. Do you know it is Augusto Farfus?

"We have a team in today's world of GT. Who are the two Brazilian teams?

"Brazil won the Indianapolis 500 and had a driver competing until the last race of the Championship."
