Fernando Alonso may be over-reaching by calling it "interesting", although his battle with Mark Webber for second place was the highlight of the European GP.
The duo were involved in a tussle for the runner-up spot from when the lights went out at the start until they crossed the finish line 57 laps later.
Webber led the battle at the start, staying ahead of the Spaniard through the first round of pit stops until Alonso overtook him on lap 21 when the Australian ran a bit wide down into Turn 12 and the Ferrari driver dived down the inside.
The second round of stops saw Alonso pit a lap after the Red Bull driver and lose second place. And although his 150° Italia dogged the RB7, it wasn't until their third stops - Webber taking his two laps ahead of Alonso - that the Spaniard finally took second place back.
From there it looked as if it would be a tight race to the line, however, Webber was not able to get the maximum out of his medium tyres and he eventually finished 17 seconds behind the Ferrari driver.
"It was an interesting race for the fans to see the fight with Webber all the way through," Alonso said in the post-race press conference.
"At the beginning I was behind him trying not to be too far behind ahead of the first pit stop. The opportunity came later when I overtook him underbraking into Turn 12.
"In the pits, they did a good job to overtake us and then my team did a good strategy to get us back in front."
The double World Champ reckons he got the best result he could as race winner Sebastian Vettel was once again too good for the chasing pack. However, he has urged Ferrari to "keep working" hard as they bid to close up on the German.
"In the end, I think second place was the maximum we could hope for," he said.
"It was a great achievement for the team. We're definitely moving in the right direction but need to keep working."
