Bernie wants to keep Nurburgring

Bernie Ecclestone is currently involved in negotiations to ensure that the Nurburgring remains on the F1 calender.

The circuit, which rotates hosting the German Grand Prix with Hockenheim, is in massive debt and there were fears that would not be able to continue hosting motor races beyond the end of the year.

However, the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate - which owns around 90 percent of the circuit's holding company - agreed earlier in the month to release €254 million worth of funds to the Nurburgring.

This appeared to be the financial boost needed to keep the circuit going, but it was later announced that the European Commission has launched an investigation into the State's aid.

Under this backdrop Ecclestone reveals he is negotiating to effectively keep the German GP alive with Hockenheim having previously stated they could not afford to host the race every year.

"I am currently in negotiations with the officials at the Nurburgring," the Briton is quoted as telling the Rhein-Zeitung newspaper."We need to keep the German race, so we'll do the best we can to sort this out. The aim is to have race at the Nurburgring in 2013."
