Christian Horner believes Lewis Hamilton's Hungarian GP win signalled his arrival in this year's Championship fight.

The Mercedes driver claimed a dominant victory on Sunday to move into the triple figures where his 25 points put him fourth on the Championship table.

Hamilton is sitting on 124 points, 48 behind Championship leader Sebastian Vettel.

Asked whether he believes Hamilton has what it takes to bridge the gap to Vettel, Horner told Sky Sports F1: "Yeah for sure.

"It is his first win this year, but there is still a long way to go and you can't discount any of them."

As for his own team's performance in Hungary, Vettel brought his car home in third place despite a damaged front wing while Mark Webber recovered from his KERS-less qualifying to finish fourth.

"I think the most damage to us was emerging from the pits behind Jenson and not being able to pass him, then damaging the front-wing," Horner said.

"I think that released Lewis and put us back into the realms of Kimi.

"Nonetheless it was still a very strong podium finish and we extended our lead in the Drivers' Championship and it was a great recovery from Mark - a very strong first stint put him very much in contention.

"Adrian [Newey] had a good look at the front-wing just to make sure it was safe - that was the mean reason. Then everything was a bit hot, but everything behaved and both cars made the finish."
