Pirelli alter hard compound

Pirelli will change their hard compound tyres ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix following a consultation with the Formula One teams.

Several teams have expressed dissatisfaction with this year's more aggressive compounds with reigning World Champions Red Bull leading the call for change.

However, others have come out in support of Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery recently revealing that eight of the 11 outfits are against major changes.

As such, and after deliberation back in Milan, the Italian tyre manufacturer has decided to change only the hard compound tyres.

"After evaluating tyre performance over the balance of the first four races, we took the decision - in consultation with all of the teams - to change the hard compound from Spain onwards, as we did in Barcelona two years ago when we also introduced a new hard tyre for the rest of the season," Hembery said.

"This latest version of the hard compound is much closer to the 2012 tyre, with the aim of giving the teams more opportunity to run a wider range of strategies in combination with the other compounds, which remain unchanged."

The updated hard compound will be in action for the first time at the Spanish GP where the medium tyres will also be in use.

One race later, Monaco, it will be the soft and supersoft tyres while in Canada the drivers will race on the medium and supersoft tyres.
