It was a case of "what could've been" for Williams in Austria as Felipe Massa missed out on a podium.

Having locked out the front row of the grid with Massa claiming his first pole for the Grove squad and team-mate Valtteri Bottas starting next to him, the team looked odds on for a double podium finish.

While Bottas went on to claim his maiden podium for the team with a P3, Massa had to settle for fourth place following a slow pitstop.

Rob Smedley, Williams' head of vehicle performance, feels their display was "not good enough" and it cost them dearly.

"As I said in the round-up to the team, we can't be happy that we had a car in first position and after one pitstop come out fourth to me that's hugely disappointing," he is quoted as saying by Autosport.

"But there are mitigating circumstances: Felipe's in-lap was slower than Valtteri's, Valtteri did the record for Williams in racing with that pitstop so that gained him another eight tenths or whatever and Felipe also struggled on the out-lap with tyre warm-up, which he didn't on the second stint.

"My message to everybody after the race was, when you're racing at the sharp end like this it's all the little details [that count], and when you get a series of details wrong that's what happens you go from first to fourth.

"That's not good enough and we can't be happy with that."
