Alonso 'can't go on like this'

Fernando Alonso admits Ferrari can't afford too many weekends like Singapore where they were clearly not the quickest team out there.

The Championship leader struggled for pace throughout the weekend while two of his main title rivals, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, came to the fore.

Hamilton, though, failed to see the chequered flag as his McLaren broke down when he was leading. It was the Brit's third retirement in five races.

Vettel, who suffered a retirement at the previous race in Italy, went on to win the Singapore GP, closing the gap to Alonso to 29 points.

"We definitely can't go on like this," said Alonso, who brought his F2012 home in third place.

"It can't be the case that we rely on my closest rival to retire, as has happened in the last two races."

A lack of pace on Sundays, though, is not Alonso's only concern.

He added: "And we can't think of carrying to the end of the season with bad qualifying sessions like on Saturday, when our performance was almost a second off the best."
