Horner throws weight behind complaints

Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber have received support from Red Bull boss Christian Horner following their criticism of the Pirelli tyres in Korea.

Ferrari driver Alonso hit out at the rubber after he qualified down in sixth place at Yeongam, saying: "The tyres cannot do five kilometres. If you push them, you finish the tyres."

A day later and the Pirellis were back in the spotlight after Sergio Perez suffered a blowout and Webber, who was driving behind the McLaren man when debris went flying across the track, was quite vocal about it after the race.

"The tyres are wearing a lot and they also explode a bit as well but that's for Pirelli to sort out," the Australian said.

He added: The drivers aren't super important - it is what other people want."

Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery hit back at the duo saying they should "ask the soon-to-be four-times Champion how to get the best from the same tyres".

Horner has now added his voice to the debate as he feels the compounds were "too marginal" in Korea.

"At the end of the day, we have been driving around with the same issues we had 12 months ago," he said.

"Here, the tyres were too marginal; last week [in Singapore] they were fine.

"It is a challenge meeting the different criteria of the tracks we go to, but I think this weekend the tyres arguably, while having produced a great race, were a bit too much on the limit."
