Dennis would not block Alonso return

McLaren chairman Ron Dennis insists "you never say never" when it comes to the possibility of Fernando Alonso returning to the team.

The double World Champion spent one season with the outfit in 2007, but it ended acrimoniously after he fell out with Dennis and he returned to Renault the following year.

However, reports over the past few months have linked Alonso with a move back to the squad. McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh initially tried to lure him to Woking for the 2014 campaign after it appeared he was unhappy at Ferrari.

Nothing came of the speculation, but Whitmarsh hasn't given up hope of getting him back on board for the 2015 campaign when Honda returns as an engine partner.

Although it appears there are still bad blood between Dennis and Alonso, the former told BBC Sport 'he would have no problem if Alonso rejoined the team'.

Asked about the possibility of the Spaniard back at Woking, he said: "One has to recognise the first objective of any grand prix team is to win races.

"Whatever obstacles sit between a team wanting to win and winning, be it engineering, fiscal or human issues, you resolve them. You never say never."

Alonso's contract with Ferrari runs until the end of the 2016 season and he also dismissed the reports saying: "I love Ferrari and I will stay there until the end. It's nice to hear comments from all the team principals every year saying they respect my job and personality, especially McLaren."

He also admitted that he only had issues with "one man", widely known to be Dennis.

"There were so many rumours that we had a lot of problems [throughout the 2007 season] but I always said that there are no problems with anyone, it was just the philosophy of the team, especially one man in the team that is not there [now]."
