Button: This bodes well for 2013

Jenson Button finished the 2012 Championship the same way he started it: with a race victory.

The McLaren driver started P2 at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and then went on to win the race and he repeated that trick at Interlagos on Sunday to secure fifth place in the Drivers' standings.

Although the MP4-27 was considered to be one of the fastest cars on the grid, Button only managed to win three races this year with three further podiums, and generally struggled during the European leg of the season.

However, the 31-year-old hopes McLaren will carry their end-of-season form over to the 2013 campaign.

"First of all I want to congratulate the whole team," the 2009 World Champion said.

"This is the perfect way to end the season. We have had ups and downs and to end on a high bodes well for 2013."

Button will have a new team-mate from next season as Sergio Perez will replace Lewis Hamilton, who will be racing for Mercedes.

"It feels amazing and it feels great to end the season like this. I'm looking forward to the season already. I want to wish Lewis well in the future as well," he said.
