Button: We won't set the world alight

Jenson Button admits McLaren are unlikely to pull off something spectacular at the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.

The Woking squad are looking for their fourth consecutive win at Gilles Villeneuve Circuit as Button won there in 2011 while his former team-mate Lewis Hamilton was victorious last year as well as in 2010.

McLaren, though, have struggled so far this season and they are yet to make it onto the podium with Button's P5 in China their best finish to date.

The 2009 World Champion concedes it will be a tough ask for the team this weekend in Montreal.

"Last year I had a terrible race," said Button. "We know the reasons for it, which is good because we have learned from that and we won't make the same mistakes again.

"Overall, Canada has been a pretty good circuit for McLaren. We've won there the last three races, but this time around we're not going to set the world alight simply because we are going to Canada.

"But I really do feel the changes we made in Monaco helped us, and I really do hope that carries over to Canada, and I think it will.

"That's good because we've some good improvements. We're still not great, but we're getting there."

Button, though, does have fond memories of the track as he came from the back of the pack to win in 2011.

"Coming through from last to first really does show that anything's possible in Formula One," he added.

"While we won't be heading to Montreal with a winning package, we're making steady progress, and there's always that added motivation you can pull off a surprising result at this race."
