Button: As good as it is going to get

Jenson Button says his return to the top ten in qualifying was "not too bad" especially as he has his choice of tyres for Sunday's German GP.

Having failed to make the cut two races in a successive, Button was back in the top ten at the Nurburgring on Sunday.

However, instead of putting in a lap during the pole position shoot-out, the McLaren opted not to run.

And with Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg making the same decision, Button will line-up P9 for Sunday's grand prix.

"We chose to not run, playing a bit of a cat-and-mouse game with Hulkenberg for P9 so not too bad," Button said.

"Q2 was good, as good as it is going to get."

Although starting ninth on the grid would usually mean sticking to the tyre on which the driver qualified, Button's decision not to run means the Brit can opt to start on either compound.

"Exactly," he said when asked about it. "I've got the choice so that's a nice position to be in."

He added: "All in all a positive qualifying session and it will be interesting to see what happens to the option tyres and we'll put ourselves in the best position."
