Button wants two-year deal

Jenson Button has yet to sign a deal with McLaren for next season as the Brit is pushing for a two-year contract.

According to reports, McLaren are ready to sign Button for a five successive season, however, Button also wants 2015 to be included.

The 2009 Champ, who joined McLaren after winning the World title with Brawn GP, says he wants to remain a McLaren driver for 2015 as that is the season when the Woking outfit will team up with Honda power.

McLaren have already announced that next year will be their last with Mercedes as they've opted for Honda power in the second season of the new 1.6-litre V6 turbo-charged engines.

Asked whether he'd signed a new deal, Button told The Guardian: "Not yet. But it's all good. It takes a bit of time.

"I want to be here in 2015. It's an important year. I've worked for many years with Japanese engine manufacturers and it would be exciting to work with them again in the future."

Questioned about whether talks for 2015 were 'holding up a deal', he added: "I can't say right now. In a few weeks I can.

"I think 2015 is a very exciting challenge for the whole team. It's always interesting working with new partners and new engine suppliers but I think it's also something necessary for this team and the future."

Meanwhile, the Telegraph reports that Button's new deal will be signed "within weeks" with the Brit once highlighting the advantages of staying with McLaren.

"You have three teams [Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes] who are still fighting for the Championship and they are going to push right the way to the end of the season," he told the newspaper. "Whereas for us, we are concentrating more on next year's car. So we are limiting how much we can move forward this season.

"But I want to succeed next year. I don't want to wait another few years. I think we do have the right people on board.

"We can win the Championship next year with Mercedes-Benz. It is still a very good partnership with them. And it would be nice to go out on a high.

"And then 2015 [when Honda arrive] is a very exciting challenge for the whole team."
