Button delivers gifts and burn-outs

Jenson Button wowed his home fans on Friday night as he did donuts and burn-outs in his McLaren on the streets of Frome.

Taking to the streets of the Somerset town, the McLaren driver took part in a Santander's Secret Santa and vowed that next year he would deliver the biggest present of all.

"It hasn't been our best season, but next year I promise we will be winning races," the Daily Mail reports Button, who this year failed to win a race with his best result being a P4 at the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix, as having said while addressing the crowd.

As for the night, the 33-year-old, who also did the ceremonial duties of switching on the Christmas lights, relished the opportunity to give something back to his hometown.

"I'm amazed we managed to keep this quiet and surprise everybody - it has been weeks in the planning and as you know, we're not very good at being quiet in F1," he said.

"But it has been great to be part of a huge undercover operation, especially to deliver something so unexpected to my hometown.

"And I've driven a Formula 1 car in some fairly exotic locations in my time but nothing felt more surreal than making lots of noise on the streets I used to kick around on when I was a kid here.

"In fact, I am sure I saw my headmaster flash by, so no doubt I will be in trouble... again."

Prior to Friday's demo, Button made an unannounced visit to the CLIC Sargent ward at the Royal Bath Hospital to deliver early Christmas presents to the children before stopping off at the homes of some Santander customers to drop off gifts.

"It's a special time of year and everyone has been so receptive to the surprises we have sprung on them today, which I guess is the spirit of Christmas in evidence!" said the Brit

"Personally, I've had a great day and it's been great fun to bring some festive cheer home."
