Prac One: Massa leads Ferrari 1-2

Felipe Massa topped Friday's first practice for the Bahrain GP by 0.077s ahead of his Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Nico Hulkenberg got proceedings underway on a hot Sakhir circuit, clocking a 1:42.5 before taking two seconds off his time. However, that was blitzed as Kimi Raikkkonen entered the fray, a 1:35.5 for the Lotus driver, while Esteban Gutierrez took second place. They were the only three drivers to post times in the first 30 minutes.

Shortly after, though, the action heated up as the drivers came out to put in some serious running. Jenson Button hit the front before he was overhauled by Adrian Sutil. A 1:35.119 for the Force India driver.

It was all-change, though, as the front runners came out to fly halfway through the session. Sebastian Vettel went quickest of all with a 1:34.978. The German continued pushing hard - even pushing right off the track - to extend his advantage which was next over his team-mate Mark Webber.

Nico Rosberg was the next to lead the way, although that was short-lived as moments later Fernando Alonso hit the front with a 1:34.564. The Spaniard had been slowest of all after a 1:50 first lap only to put his foot flat for his second to edge Rosberg by 0.057s.

As the session entered the final 30 minutes, Felipe Massa, the last driver to set a time, went from slowest to fifth quickest to quickest of all, 0.077s up on his team-mate Alonso.

And with drivers switching to heavier fuel loads on their worn Pirellis for the final 20 minutes, the Ferrari drivers were guaranteed a 1-2 ahead of Rosberg.
