Prac Three: Seb P1, Nick up in flames

Sebastian Vettel set the pace in the final practice in Spain while Nick Heidfeld's session ended in rather dramatic fashion.

Heading out of the pits, Renault noticed that Heidfeld's car was running hot, however, deemed it be a faulty sensor. It was not.

Making his way around the Circuit de Catalunya, flames were seen licking the bottom of Heidfeld's car with the team telling him "fire, get out quickly, get out quickly."

The German pulled over onto the side of the track by which time the flames were heading towards and cockpit. He got out quickly.

Back in the action, it was Vettel who was again quickest, overhauling his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber by 0.084s.

Michael Schumacher was third for Mercedes GP, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Jenons Button, Nico Rosberg and Kamui Kobayashi.

Report: It was another lovely morning at the Circuit de Catalunya as final practice got underway with the drivers quickly out for their installation laps. Ferrari are running their Turkish-spec rear wing this morning after the FIA declared that Friday's version contravened the regulations.

Jarno Trulli posted the morning's first lap time, a 1:30.924 for the Team Lotus driver. He was soon overhauled by Vitaly Petrov, Paul di Resta, Kamui Kobayashi and then Michael Schumacher with a 1:26.599.

Problems for Nick Heidfeld. 25 minutes into the session the German's Lotus Renault caught fire as he was putting in a lap. The team said over the radio "get out quickly, get out quickly." And with the flames engulfing the car, Heidfeld literally leapt out. The marshals were quickly on hand to put out the fire. But wow...

Mark Webber took over at the top of the timesheets with a 1:24.750 with Nico Rosberg second. Lewis Hamilton jumped ahead of Rosberg while Webber lowered the benchmark. Fernando Alonso took fourth place ahead of Schumacher and Sergio Perez.

Schumacher overhauled Webber with a 1:23.057 with Rosberg just missing out on beating his team-mate, losing time in the final sector. Jenson Button improved to P4 before he was dropped as Perez took the position and then Felipe Massa.

With ten minutes remaining in the session, reigning World Champ Sebastian Vettel had yet to set a lap time with his Red Bull mechanics working on his engine. Webber put in three purple sector times to return to the front.

However, with the seconds running out, Vettel finally put in a flying lap and overhauled Webber by 0.084s.
