Toyota need to cut out their mistakes and capitalise on their pace if they hope to score points in Hungary, according to Pascal Vasselon.
Although Toyota's pace has improved in the last few races, the team's results have not as mistakes such as those made at the European GP continue to creep in.
While Ralf Schumacher was taken out of the grand prix by Nick Heidfeld, Toyota were unable to get his team-mate Jarno Trulli into the points as tactical errors were made by the those on the pit wall in the rain-affect race.
However, Vasselon firmly believes that if Toyota can cut out those mistakes and avoid more accidents, they can do well at this weekend's Hungarian GP.
"After our very disappointing European Grand Prix, we are hoping for a much better result in Budapest," said Toyota's senior general chassis manager.
"In qualifying at the Nurburgring we clearly showed a competitive pace, as in the last couple of events.
"We were expecting to score points but in the race we made too many mistakes, and Ralf's race ended after being hit by Heidfeld, so we missed another opportunity.
"I believe we have the speed to score points but we must prove that in the race this weekend."
Trulli, who finished last at the Nurburgring, agrees that points are within Toyota's reach.
"Clearly, the result at the Nurburgring was very disappointing, especially because we had a good chance to score points after we looked competitive earlier in the weekend," he said.
"That was a disappointing race but we will work hard to achieve a better result in the Hungarian Grand Prix."
