Prac One: A Ferrari 1-2 in Hungary

Ferrari bagged the 1-2 in Friday's first practice session in Hungary as Felipe Massa beat team-mate Kimi Raikkonen to the P1 slot.

The Ferrari duo edged out main title rival Lewis Hamilton, who failed to get within half a second of Massa's P1 time.

Report: A hot start to the morning saw both the track and air temperature sitting in the high 20s as the Force India and Toro Rosso drivers made their way out for their installation laps. They were soon joined by a train that included everyone barring the two Ferrari drivers.

Half an hour into the session Rubens Barrichello set the first lap time of the day, a 1:34.220. The Honda driver continued lapping lowering the benchmark before Jenson Button overtook him by two seconds. Barrichello, though, put in fastest sector times to lower the mark to 1:27 only to be overhauled by the Toro Rosso of Sebastien Bourdais.

The Frenchman was in turn overtake by Giancarlo Fisichella and Jarno Trulli as the lap times continued to tumble. The arrival of Kimi Raikkonen out on track, though, signaled the end of the battle of the midfield teams for supremacy as the Ferrari driver immediately went P1 with a 1:22.032, over a second faster than Trulli.

Sebastian Vettel brought out the yellow flags 50 minutes in the session when he pulled over on the side of the track with a technical problem.

With session green again Felipe Massa, using the shark fin engine cover, took second place behind his team-mate with Timo Glock and Robert Kubica sliding in behind him. Lewis Hamilton went P5 on his first timed lap and Heikki Kovalainen P6.

The Finn, though, improved to first place on his next lap, clocking a 1:21.951. Glock moved up to third place while the Renaults of Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr completed the top eight.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Massa moved to the top of the timesheets by 0.005s ahead of Kovalainen. Massa continued lapping, putting in an impressive 1:20.981 while Hamilton improved to second place and Glock to third. Kovalainen overhauled Hamilton while Alonso took fourth place off Glock.

A lap gasp effort saw Raikkonen move up to second place, 0.364s behind Massa, who ended the session in the P1 slot.
