Prost backs Kimi-Alonso partnership

The likes of Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa and Jackie Stewart may expect fireworks at Ferrari next year, but Alain Prost believes Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen will be just fine as team-mates.

Ferrari will have two World Champions on the grid next year after moving away from their strategy of having one clear number one driver with the re-signing of Raikkonen.

Although it will no doubt give the Italian stable one of the strongest line-ups in F1 history, the likes of Schumacher, Massa, Stewart and Jenson Button believe it could cause a few problems.

However Prost, a man who knows a thing or two about having a strong team-mate as he partnered Ayrton Senna at McLaren, sees no reason why it can't work.

"Only next year will tell us, because that [choice] can work very well," Prost said in Singapore.

"It has worked very well in the past. Everybody thinks about the reality between me and Senna - but it has also worked well.

"It worked very well for the team, we really put the team on top.

"If you have a problem it is the management that has to make it work. It is going to be more difficult but it can work."

While Alonso has been known to get hot-headed when things don't go his way, Raikkonen is more laidback and Prost believes the Finn's personality will be key to their success.

"It should be easier because Kimi has a different character," he said.
