The camera Michael Schumacher wore on his helmet during his horrific skiing accident is being examined by French investigators.

The Formula One legend remains in a medically induced coma having suffered severe a head injury during a fall while skiing.

On the slopes of Meribel last Sunday morning, Schumacher reportedly hit a rock with such force that his helmet split in two.

The accident is being investigated by prosecutors, a common practice in France.

It has now emerged that Schumacher had a camera fixed to his ski helmet, which, according to an AFP source has "been taken to see if it can yield any clues as to the circumstances of the accident."

Meanwhile, while there have been no official updates early Saturday morning, a friend of the 45-year-old's told journalists that he is improving.

Former F1 driver Philippe Streiff had visited Schumacher in hospital and revealed that his surgeon told him that while Schumacher remains in a serious condition, his life is no longer in danger.

However, later in the day his manager Sabine Kehm warned against listening to anything that comes from someone other than Schumacher's doctors or management.

"Michael's condition remains critical but stable," she told the Bild.

"We would like to clearly stress that any information regarding Michael's health not coming from the doctors treating him or from his management must be treated as invalid and pure speculation."

Kehm added that there would be no press conference before Monday.

This news comes a day after Schumacher marked his 45th birthday at the Grenoble University Hospital where fans gathered on Friday to hold a vigil, the show of support that was appreciated by his wife, Corinna, and the rest of his family.

"The incredible sympathies shown by the Ferrari Fans outside the hospital has utterly overwhelmed us and moved us all to tears," said his family in a statement.

"We are deeply grateful for it and also for all the heart-warming and heartfelt wishes for Michael to get well soon, which have reached us from all over the world."
