Nico Hulkenberg has taken to Twitter to rubbish reports of him signing a deal with BMW to become one of their DTM drivers.

According to the Italian edition of Motorsport.com, Hulkenberg was said to be heading to the German touring car championship, signing a deal with BMW, as Alfa Romeo has opted to retain Antonio Giovinazzi for next season.

But Hulkenberg spotted German website Motorsport-Total.com running the same story and responded on Monday morning.

“Thanks to @MST_Formel1 for the update on my future,” he wrote. “Next time maybe less pot-hitting?! #FakeNews”

It leaves everyone in the dark still with regards to Hulkenberg’s future, who has already seen a move to Haas not materialise whilst also ruling himself out of rejoining Williams.

That only leaves Red Bull and Alfa Romeo still on the table should the former decide to put in a more experienced team-mate to push Max Verstappen or if the latter do decide to drop Antonio Giovinazzi.

According to other reports, Alfa bosses are meeting this week to deliberate who should partner Kimi Raikkonen for 2020.
