Sainz available for ‘significant’ price

The Carlos Sainz saga rumbles on with Christian Horner now conceding that Red Bull would be open to releasing the driver but only for a “significant” price.

Last week reports emerged claiming that Sainz could be on his way to Renault as early as the next race, the Hungarian Grand Prix.

This was denied by Renault’s managing director Cyril Abiteboul.

That, though, doesn’t mean that Sainz won’t be off to Renault next season with Horner saying Red Bull would consider releasing him if the right offer was made.

“Sainz has a contract with Red Bull and there are two years left on that contract,” the Red Bull team boss told Sky Sports.

“We value him as an asset and an asset has a value.

“So if there was a desire from another team to have him, or for him to go somewhere else, something that has a value has to have a price attached.

“If somebody was prepared to make an offer, we would of course consider it.

“But it would need to have a significant value attached because we have invested in Carlos. We are not just going to give an asset away.”
