With USF1 seemingly on the brink of disintegration, it comes as no surprise that the team's only confirmed driver, Jose Maria Lopez, is looking to have his contract cancelled.
USF1 boss Ken Anderson on Wednesday confirmed that the team have asked the FIA to defer their participation in the sport until 2011, effectively ending any hopes that they will race this season.
With a race seat seemingly out of the question, Lopez is now trying to negotiate a reserve role with HRT (formerly Campos Meta).
"There are a lot of chances that he will be a reserve at Campos," Victor Rosso, a member of Lopez's management team, told Cadena 3.
"At this moment Felipe McGough [Lopez's manager] is finalising the details to release him from the contract with US F1 and to get his money back. It all depends on the termination of the contract.
"We made it clear to the Americans that he should not be treated like another businessman, but rather like a person that got the money thanks to a lot of effort and that this is the last chance he will have to race in Formula 1," he added.
Meanwhile, McGough has launched a scathing attack on the Charlotte-based team and inparticular boss Ken Anderson.
"Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor will travel to Argentina in the coming days to give us an explanation about everything that has happened, since the sole responsibility is theirs'," an angry McGough said on Cadena 3 of the team's demise.
"The main culprit is Ken Anderson. He deceived the FIA, FOTA, FOM and broke the Concorde Agreement.
"We have already told [Carabante] that López is free, they are aware of everything, and now we are waiting to see what is decided in Europe. We are looking at anything that allows José María to stay in Formula 1, even as the reserve driver."
