Kimi downplays Allison's departure

Thursday 09-May-2013 14:48

Kimi Raikkonen has played down James Allison's departure, saying only time will tell if it has an effect on the Lotus team.

Allison, who joined Lotus in 2009, left the team earlier this week and is believed to be Ferrari-bound.

The position of technical director wasn't vacant for long as Lotus have already announced that Nick Chester has replaced the Brit.

Asked whether he was worried that Allison's departure would hurt Lotus, Raikkonen said: "Not really.

"We don't know if it's going to change anything, or what it's going to change.

"Obviously there are people who will replace him already. We'll see if it has any effect on what the future brings.

"I don't really have any idea."

He added: . "I don't know the reasons behind it, it's not my thing to comment; you'll have to ask himself. I don't know what the reasons were.

"[I got to know him] a little bit obviously because we've been working in the same team but day-by-day we don't have much to do really and in he doesn't come to all the races.

"This is normal; I work with the engineers and obviously he hears all the things that we do. We will see in the future what happens."

The Finn was also questioned about his plans for the future after team owner Gerard Lopez came out saying he expects Raikkonen will remain at Lotus next season.

The 33-year-old, though, says he has yet to decide.

"My decision will be purely on what I think is the best overall for me, and we'll see what happens in the future," he said.

"I have no idea what will happen and right now I don't put much thought into it because we only have done four races.

"There's a long season to go and there's a long time until next year. So now we put effort for this race and this season."
