Alonso chasing the Canadian win

Fernando Alonso is refusing to give up on winning the Canadian GP despite failing to make inroads on the front two rows of the grid.

Qualifying has not been Ferrari's strength in recent times with Alonso yet to record a top-two lap time on a Saturday afternoon.

It was more of the same in the wet in Montreal on Saturday when the Spaniard had to settle for sixth place on the grid.

Alonso, though, believes he can fight back as he looks to chase down Championship leader and pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel.

"Sixth gives us the possibility to fight for everything tomorrow if we are fast enough in the race," he said.

"Obviously there is a little bit of disappointment because we felt very competitive with the car this weekend and we start sixth, so that is not a perfect result for the team.

"We need to get it back and score many points and show our potential. We start tomorrow in a position that gives us all the chance to win the race if we are quick enough."

As for what went wrong on Saturday, Alonso reckons Ferrari were caught out by the cold conditions.

"We need to remain confident, and although we don't know what the conditions are tomorrow, we have seen again here that we are not super competitive in intermediate conditions and in cold conditions we are even worse," he said.
