Alonso unsure of test due to tyres

Fernando Alonso admits he is reluctant to take part in the upcoming Silverstone test as he is still concerned by the tyre issues.

Four different drivers suffered left-rear tyre blowouts at the British Grand Prix, sparking questions over the safety of the current compounds. The FIA has responded by allowing drivers to test new Pirelli tyres during the Young Driver Test at Silverstone later this month.

Alonso, who was nearly hit on the helmet by debris flying from Sergio Perez's McLaren during the race on Sunday, says he is not sure if it's a good idea to take part in the test.

"I don't intend to go," the Spaniard told reporters at the Nurburgring on Thursday.

"It's not a very safe thing racing on the same track with the same tyres. I don't have the feeling I want to go. But if the team wants me to go..."

Pirelli has already confirmed that teams will be given Kevlar-belted rear tyres for this weekend's German Grand Prix and Alonso is hopeful it will make things safer.

"Pirelli made some changes so we trust them," he said.

"This is the third or fourth change they make in the season already, some were hurting us, some were helping us. I think performance today is the second priority.

"The most important thing is to make it for dinner at home on Sunday.

"I was lucky...It could have hit my helmet (last Sunday when finishing third). It would have been like a bullet."
