Antonio Felix da Costa is making no bones about the fact that he wants to be involved in Formula One next year.
The 21-year-old Portuguese driver is already a member of the highly rated Red Bull Young Driver Programme and has had spells as the team's reserve driver in China and Canada.
However, he is getting a big opportunity to impress as he is turning out for both Red Bull and Toro Rosso in the Young Driver Test at Silverstone.
Despite his ambition, Da Costa knows he will only get a chance if he does well in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.
"I don't hide it - my goal is to be in Formula 1 next season, but this will only happen if I do a good job in World Series," he said.
"So the goal at the moment is to focus on World Series. We need to raise our game there - things are ok but not magical - so we need to win a few races and maybe we will see if this step happens or not."
There could be a vacancy at Toro Rosso next season if Red Bull decide to replace Mark Webber with Daniel Ricciardo, and Da Costa feels it would be good if they promote a youngster to STR.
"Like I said, I don't hide that the goal is to be in F1 next year, but this will only happen if we have a good end to the season in World Series," he said.
"I think it would be good to have a junior driver step into Red Bull as I think that is what the junior team is all about."
