Chandhok: Tougher than expected

Karun Chandhok admits his Formula One debut was tougher than he had expected, largely due to his lack of running.

With Hispania Racing failing to take part in pre-season testing, Friday's practices were vital for the team. However, Chandhok failed to even leave the pits throughout the entire 180 minutes of running.

Saturday wasn't all much better as again he sat out practice, only completing his first laps during qualifying, where he amassed seven on his way to the very last spot on the grid.

With basically no running and no experience of the circuit, the 26-year-old's race came to an end after just two laps when he caught a bump that spun him into a barrier.

"I knew my F1 debut was going to be tough but never realised it would be so tough," Chandhok Times of India.

"This was definitely not how imaged my F1 debut but unfortunately this is how it was."

And, unfortunately for Chandhok, he is not expecting a sudden turn around when the F1 circus heads to Australia next weekend.

"The season is going to be tough and I need all the support I can have," he said.
