Sergio Perez is not worried about his McLaren future even after his team boss publicly expressed an interest in other drivers.
Earlier this week, Martin Whitmarsh admitted that he would happily re-sign Fernando Alonso to McLaren despite both Perez and team-mate Jenson Button waiting on contract renewals.
"Yes - any team would. He's the best driver," he said of the Ferrari driver. "I don't know his contractual situation. I assume he's under contract."
Added to that, the McLaren boss later told journalists that Perez needs to up his game and that he expects a better showing from the Mexican racer in Singapore.
"Sergio has a tremendous benchmark in Jenson, who is consistent, a great quality driver, a great team player and who brings a tremendous amount of benefits to our team," said Whitmarsh.
"For a young charger like Sergio, he knows and I know that he has to come in and beat him. He hasn't done that consistently enough so far this year.
"He is going to give it a good go this weekend I expect."
Perez, though, insists he's not fazed by Whitmarsh's comments as he is confident he'll be staying at McLaren for another season.
"You have to work very hard in any team you are, you have to always give your best and you have to be very professional," he told Autosport.
"It is what I am doing, and I am trying to give my best. It has been a very difficult season for all of us, but I always said that my future here looks okay.
"I am here for next year, and let's see - hopefully we can be back to fight for a Championship next year."
